Apple’s Siri doubles iPhone 4S data usage

Apple’s voice recognition software Siri has prompted users of the iPhone 4S to use almost twice as much data compared with the handset’s predecessor, placing greater pressure on operators, network firm Arieso said:

“Voice is the ultimate human interface,” Arieso chief technology officer Michael Flanagan said in an interview in London. The voice assistant is reportedly responsible for high data consumption by iPhone 4S users, according to a study from network firm Arieso.

The iPhone 4S has the highest downlink data volumes of any phone measured in Arieso’s study, which covers more than one million subscribers, ranking slightly behind the Android-powered HTC Desire S.

Data consumption remains a concern for those people under plans and on network like Verizon that have suffered connection problems due to excessive load.

We should expect an increase in data with additional functions of Siri, however, it shouldn’t be forgotten that iOS 5 was also release for other devices including iPhone 4S. With the additional features of iOs 5 that brings an extra service called iCloud. For sure, with iCloud, a lot of additional data usage could be made by the air updates, Photo Stream, iTunes in the Cloud.

The study pointed out the consumption is not evenly distributed and a smaller number of incredibly powerful users account for the surge. Siri, might be one of the cause of the high data consumption for the iPhone 4s, will it affect the Apple’s market?
